The Manchester United team to face Brighton this evening has been announced.
After ringing the changes for the FA Cup game against Norwich City at Carrow Road on Saturday, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has once again made a number of switches for this crucial Premier League game.
The matter was complicated by the fact Saturday’s game went to extra time and Solskjaer was forced to both bring players on earlier than he would have liked, and also play others for much longer.
In his column for this website, former United defender John O’Kane said he believes Solskjaer should choose the majority of the team who played last week against Sheffield United.
“One thing we surely know for certain is that a settled side is going to be paramount, especially in the defence and midfield,” he said. “I don’t know if he made the changes at the weekend to keep players happy but United have to be in the business of winning and not keeping players happy. I felt it backfired at the weekend because the squad isn’t strong enough to chop and change. Rest two or three players, win the game early and make all those changes. But the rhythm of the game was fractured because of the number of changes and it looked like a bunch of individuals rather than a team again.
“Hopefully all of those changes made at the weekend will help us tonight. If we start with that front six – Matic, Pogba, Bruno, Greenwood, Martial Rashford – I think that would be too much for Brighton. I just hope that Ole does go that attacking.”
At least three members of the regular defence were completely rested at the weekend, making that selection much more straight-forward.
