After the player agreed a medical, Manchester United are set to announce the signing of Jadon Sancho within the next few hours.
It is expected that the official announcement will come early afternoon tomorrow at the latest but it may well be revealed earlier in the day to coincide with the launch of the new home shirt, which is also being released tomorrow.
Sancho has been coveted by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for the last two years and, after a protracted saga that has taken well over a year with failed negotiations with Borussia Dortmund in 2020, the England winger was finally allowed to make the move he was desperate for.
Following England’s final defeat in the European Championship, Sancho was free to complete his transfer and attend a medical yesterday.
And the news has already been welcomed by all at Old Trafford, including former midfielder Sammy McIlroy.
“I haven’t seen too much of him, but I will say that from what I have seen, I like, and he looks to me like he’s a United player,” McIlroy told TalkOfTheDevils exclusively. “He’s an entertainer, he can make goals, score them, and at the age he is it’s a great time to get him in.”
McIlroy believes United have been crying out for quality competition of this nature – and his versatility will surely be a boost with today’s news that Marcus Rashford is expected to miss the first couple of months of the campaign.
“People could complain about the position Jadon plays but the way I see it is, a club like United should have these options,” he said. “He can play both sides. You need competition and he will add to that. He’s got a good football brain, an eye for a goal, and can play all along the line behind the striker. He’s got great pace and trickery and would be a great option.”
