Exclusive : Solskjaer Man-Management ‘Second To None’ Says Former Striker

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is ‘second to none’ when it comes to man-management, according to former United striker Phil Marsh, who played both with and under the Norwegian.

Solskjaer has received praise and criticism since becoming United manager but one thing nobody has been able to question is his remarkable man-management skills which have been evident in the improving mood around the club over the last couple of years. It has been proven by the form of Luke Shaw, whose career at the club looked almost over before the confidence boost he received under the boss.

And Marsh, who played with Solskjaer in 2006 and also under him when he was reserve team manager, says he is the best in the business when it comes to those relationships.

“He’s very passionate about the game, he loves football, loves watching and talking about it,” Marsh said exclusively on our TalkingDevils podcast today. “A big thing for me, coming through as a youngster, he was always approachable. As a young striker I wanted to become as good as I could be and he was something I could talk to. Ole was someone I would use, we did finishing sessions together, and he took that into his management.

“His man-to-man management is second to none, he makes everyone feel like they’re a part of the team,. Whether they’re playing or on the bench. He’s always there to talk to about any problems. He’s shown that with the first team, he’s stabilised it. Things would maybe feel different if we had won the Europa League, I know that some people see that differently, but for me he’s doing a great job.”

Solskjaer today could celebrate the signing of one of his long-standing targets, Jadon Sancho. Phil discussed Sancho and much more in this week’s podcast which can be viewed below.
