Manchester United have named their team to face West Ham in the League Cup this evening.
In the week building up to the game, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had already confirmed a number of people who would be involved in the match day squad.
The first to receive an assurance that he would start was Jesse Lingard. Lingard scored a late winner against the team who loaned him for the second half of last season and
“I think today was a good answer on Jesse,” Solskjaer said on Sunday. “It was quite clear that he wants to fight for his place and want to be a part of a United team he feels is going places. For me, I can’t speak for Jesse now, but he is really contributing.”
“He’ll play, of course, on Wednesday because we will make a few changes. I’m so happy and pleased for him. He handles the setbacks, the highs and lows really well, is becoming a grown man and is a very good player.”
Solskjaer also confirmed that Anthony Elanga will be a part of the squad.
“Anthony was terrific in pre-season – his attitude, his enthusiasm, his directness. I love to see players like this,” he said. “He was disappointed not to travel down to West Ham but he scored for the Under-23s and now he’s ready. He’ll be involved in the squad.”
It has since also been stated that Dean Henderson, Phil Jones and Alex Telles were in contention for involvement, while Uruguayan forward Edinson Cavani was ruled out and Solskjaer also confirmed that Marcus Rashford is not expected to return until after the international break.
The game kicks off at 7:45pm this evening and is live in the UK on Sky Sports Football.
