Manchester United have named their team to face Leicester City this afternoon.
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be hoping his team will bounce back with a win following an indifferent run of form before the international break which saw pressure begin to mount. Today is the first of many tough fixtures between now and Christmas that will define United’s prospects for the season.
They will have to begin that run with defensive problems, following injuries to Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire.
“You know the international breaks are sometimes a time to cross your fingers and hope for the best,” Solskjaer said before the game.
“Because as we see with Raphael, he’s got an injury, out for a few weeks, but then again Victor and Eric played in the internationals and got good game time so that was good for us.”
“With regards to Fred and Edinson, they played a full game this morning, half 1 it kicked off, so of course we’re not counting on them,” Solskjaer continued in his pre-match press conference. “We’ve got to give them the time to rest and recover, which of course you have to. They played well, and that was a good thing for us. They’re not injured, so hopefully they can be involved again in midweek, for the Champions League.”
Solskjaer had more positive news on Marcus Rashford, who he confirmed would be in the squad.
“He’s in the squad, yes,” the manager said. “If he’s going to start or not, I can’t tell you now because it wouldn’t be right but he’s worked really hard throughout the whole lay-off. He’s been really bright this week, he had a 60-minute involvement in a behind-closed-doors game last week so he’s fit and raring to go.”
