Manchester United have named their team to face Southampton today.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer spent some time in the build up praising captain Harry Maguire’s recent form.
“He’s probably never looked back since the international break because he is improving, getting better and better, as the rest of the team is,” said Solskjaer. “Harry is a very sensible and intelligent man. He is his own harshest critic as well, he’s a leader and he’s never been afraid of fronting the team or standing up there when things go against him.”
Despite the mixed start, United could claim a club record today with a win after exceptional away form, though Solskjaer was looking at the bigger picture.
“The main thing for me is that we keep improving, and take the next game as the most important one so we don’t take our eye off the ball,” said Ole. “You can forgive any mistake if we have the right mindset and the right approach and I feel we are getting there. If we carry on improving as we have done, then I’m very sure we’ll move up the table.”
Solskjaer said he expects Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Victor Lindelof to be fit for the game at St. Mary’s, but listed others who won’t.
“We hope they’re going to be okay and probably will be,” he said. “But it looks like Paul [Pogba] and Scott [McTominay] might be unavailable still. It might come a little bit early for them, so we have more or less the same squad that was available for Istanbul. Jesse [Lingard] is back after his isolation, so he’s been training for a couple of days as well. December and January are amazingly congested months. If we do our job in the Carabao Cup, we might have a semi-final in there as well. So we have about 10 games each month, which is not many days of recovery but that’s when you try to utilise the squad, whenever you need to.”
