Manchester United face Norwich City in the FA Cup later looking to repeat their victory at Carrow Road from earlier in the season.
The games are coming thick and fast and it is likely Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will use the opportunity to rotate his team ahead of Tuesday’s visit to Brighton.
In his column for TalkOfTheDevils this week, John O’Kane said he would make changes, but warned the manager against making too many.
“I’d still take the chance this weekend to change it up and swap the full-backs this weekend,” he said exclusively on this website. “I would also bring Eric Bailly into the defence. I would keep the midfield the same to get some fluidity, but I’m certain Ole will change so to give a few of those squad players a game, and that does concern me as, like I said, I think it’s a drop in quality.
“I’d rest Rashford as he still looks very rusty, and I’d put Martial on the left as he’ll be buzzing still from the other night. Ighalo should come in too. Don’t be surprised to see Pereira, Lingard, Mata and James all come in… for me, it would be a mistake as from now until the end of the season, the team needs fluidity not chopping and changing just to give lads a game. Five subs can be used so there’s no need for wholesale changes.”
For us, we expect Solskjaer will make changes, and we feel that he may also change the formation in order to give some players an opportunity to play. In fact, we expect a 4-2-3-1 with wholesale changes and only the captain Harry Maguire retaining his place.
Maybe Rashford or Martial will add some seniority to the forward line but with a big enough bench to make the changes to significantly impact a game, and Tuesday’s game looking increasingly important, Solskjaer will surely use the opportunity to mix it up.
