Manchester United’s team to face Chelsea in this evening’s FA Cup semi-final has been announced.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is aiming to win his first trophy as United manager and the FA Cup was one he won twice as a player at Old Trafford. He has enjoyed three wins over Chelsea this season – and won at Stamford Bridge in this competition last season too – but will be cautious about that run ending tonight.
The Norwegian has settled on a first choice eleven but was forced to start a different side against Crystal Palace and had to consider that he must also do the same tonight due to an injury picked up by Luke Shaw in Monday’s draw with Southampton. For Shaw, it will be a race against time to get fit from his ankle injury in time to play again this season. Brandon Williams suffered a nasty cut to the head in that game too, but although Timothy Fosu-Mensah put in a good performance at Selhurst Park, Solskjaer is keen to have some balance on that side of pitch.
“Luke will be out,” Ole told ManUtd.com. “I can’t see him recovering. Brandon will hopefully be okay, he’ll try to join in training today with his eye. We’ll see if he can see the ball when he comes in! He should be fine.”
It has been suggested that Jesse Lingard and Sergio Romero would be in the starting line-up. Romero, in particular, might feel optimistic about playing considering he is usually the cup goalkeeper. He was indeed in goal for the League Cup win at Stamford Bridge.
“The team is not selected yet and that goes both for Jesse and Sergio,” Solskjaer said in his pre-match press conference. “They’ve got a good chance of being involved, so we’ll make a decision on that later on.”
