Manchester United have named their team to face West Ham tonight in their last home game of the season.
They will be hoping for a response following the FA Cup defeat to Chelsea on Sunday. United put in one of the poorest performances of the campaign at Wembley, but Leicester City’s capitulation at Spurs provided Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with the opportunity to keep destiny in his own hands once more.
United know if they avoid defeat in their last two games they will qualify for the Champions League. But even a win tonight might mean little if the right result isn’t accomplished on Sunday. That means a tough one for Solskjaer, who presumably has spent time wondering whether it is worth trying to encourage an all-out attack to rack up the goals, or to preserve players and keep them fresh for the Leicester game.
One player who won’t be coming into the side is Eric Bailly, who was taken off at the weekend with a head injury.
“Of course he was shaken up a bit,” Solskjaer told ManUtd.com. “He had a big blow to his head. We’re still monitoring him. He stayed down in London after the game. I’ve not seen him this morning yet because these interviews are before the boys meet up. I’ll see him soon and, hopefully, he’ll be alright.”
“Apart from being disappointed and having bruised pride after losing the game, we’re ready to go again. We know now we’ve got two cup finals to play.”
Solskjaer has avoided questions about whether or not he would play David De Gea, with the Spanish goalkeeper under pressure following his poor performance at the weekend. But with Champions League qualification on the line, he has named a strong team for the visit of the Hammers.
