It was certainly a very nervy evening against FC Copenhagen before Bruno Fernandes grabbed a deserved winner for United, it was an evening where VAR was against us and the opposition’s keeper was in inspired form.
So, it’s Sevilla in the semi-final on Sunday. Wolves had become a familiar opponent!
I do think Sevilla will suit the way United play more than Wolves – without doubt Sevilla are a highly talented team with an incredible record in this competition and they will definitely fancy their chances to beat United meaning they will come out and attack.
This will leave space for United to exploit and with Anthony Martial playing the best football of his career I believe he could be the match winner and get the club into another European final.
Winning the tournament would be massive for the club and be an incredible end to what has turned into a remarkable season, for Ole to win his first silverware could give everyone the belief that the rebirth of being a winning football club is on track, ready to compete on all fronts next season.
The Europa League is obviously not on the same scale as The Champions League but is still a serious competition that will make people sit up and take notice of what’s happening at the club.
The performance against Copenhagen was an improvement on what we have seen recently, there was more spark about our players, more imagination, and renewed vigour which certainly bodes well for the Seville game. It’s set up for a mouth-watering encounter with two great teams going head to head.
In less positive news, Phil Jones was the recipient of a poorly-placed joke by one of the biggest companies in the world. It was sad to see a platform as big as Twitter making these comments about Phil Jones, I think being on social media, it will always be par for the course that at times high-profile figures will receive negative comments from individuals.
But for comments to come from an organisation the size of Twitter is really disappointing and they should really know better. The post was of course taken down but the worrying thing is they thought it was okay in the first place!
Too often the feelings of an individual are cast aside in the attempt to get a cheap laugh or gain some extra followers, which I hope the people of Twitter will learn from after this episode.
Phil Jones is a fantastic footballer who has struggled over the years with injuries – from what I’ve seen over the years whether playing well or badly – in or out of the team his attitude is exemplary and that should be applauded!
