Manchester United have named their team for tonight’s game against Brighton.
It’s a return to the AMEX stadium after Saturday’s win, but as it is the League Cup, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made plenty of changes.
“It’s an opportunity for game-time,” he said. “We need to build up the squad for a long season ahead and of course it’s an opportunity for individuals to impress. At the stage we’re at, we need to have players ready and available because it’s a long season. But we have a strong and a big squad.”
Asked if he would rotate his team, Solskjaer said : “I’m not sure. Every game lives its own life and, of course at the stage we’re at in the season with all the games coming up, I think teams are making changes. You can see teams have a cup team and a league team and we’ll make changes. It’ll be very similar to what happened last week against Luton.”
Luke Shaw – who played at the weekend – insists it’s a competition the team are taking seriously.
“Of course it’s a competition we want to win, but I think it gives the manager that opportunity to give chances to other players that are on the bench and on the fringe, who are training very hard to get chances,” Luke told MUTV.
“I think games like this are perfect for them. It’s good that we’ve got a very strong squad with players who are ready to play and are ready to take their chance. I’m sure the players are looking forward to that on Wednesday. Matches are coming thick and fast and, like I say, they’re competitions that we want to be strong in, we want to be winning and be challenging in. But it’s also a chance for players to get game time and sharpness.”
