Exclusive : I would love to see ‘Amazing’ Camavinga at Old Trafford, Says Former Manchester United Player

Former Manchester United defender Rafael Da Silva says he would ‘love’ to see Eduardo Camavinga at Old Trafford.

Rafael, now playing in Turkey since late 2020, spent the previous few years of his career playing in France for Lyon, and was in Ligue 1 when Camavinga, a highly rated multi-functional midfielder, burst on to the scene.

Still only 18, Camavinga is cited as one of the best prospects in his position, in spite of not making France’s Euro 2020 squad, and has been linked with a move to United this summer. His contract expires next summer, and with the economic situation in France impacting Rennes just as it is most clubs, it is suggested they want to cash in on their asset.

Rafael – who played for United for six years – admits he would like to see Camavinga turn out for his former club.

“He’s a very good player,” he said exclusively to TalkOfTheDevils in our TalkingDevils podcast. “In his first season he was amazing… just incredible at 17. Then, like me, like normally happens with younger guys, he dropped a little last season. But this is normal, it’s what comes with adapting to pressure. Camavinga is a very good midfielder and I’d love to see him at United.”

Rafael also took some time to give special praise to Edinson Cavani, the Uruguay international who had a magnificent first season at the club. Cavani scored 17 times in all competitions last season and just when it seemed as though he would depart to return to South America, he agreed a deal to extend his stay.

“He has United DNA,” he said, “he is a humble guy, he works hard, he has everything to play for United. On top of this he’s a very good striker… you can see what football means to him. He’s a perfect fit, even though he’s getting older.”
