Cristiano Ronaldo has declared his happiness to ‘be back home’ in one of his first interviews since he returned to Manchester United, and insisted he has a ‘great’ relationship with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
“I’m so happy to be back home,” Ronaldo told ManUtd.com. “As everyone knows, since I signed for United at 18, Sir Alex was the key. For me Sir Alex is like my father in football. He was the key for me to back in this position back at Manchester United.”
Ronaldo went on to explain that he has serious ambitions back at Old Trafford. “I want to make history,” he said. “To win trophies. To help the team to win great things.”
Whilst much has been said about Sir Alex’s involvement, Ronaldo’s relationship with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has scarcely been mentioned. However, Ronaldo has been quick to point out that although they weren’t able to arrange the transfer face to face, their previous relationship as team-mates was strong.
“We had a chat, of course I’ll have time to speak with him (Ole) face to face,” he said. “I played with him two or three years, I have a good relationship with him. It’s great.”
Finally, Ronaldo was asked about how excited he is to play in front of the United support – generally, the fans have continued to chant his name since his departure, and of course, since the news of his return broke on Friday, there has been a frenzy of activity with fans going crazy on social media.
“The fans are the key of football,” he said. “I’m so glad. The United fans are special, I remember them very well, I know they still sing my music and it makes me very happy. My commitment is to give everything on the pitch like I did before. I hope to see them very soon.”
