Line-up announced : Manchester United team to face Norwich 11/12/21

Manchester United have named their team to face Norwich City in the Premier League this afternoon.

In the build up to the match, manager Ralf Rangnick admitted that French World Cup Winners Raphael Varane and Paul Pogba would not be available.

“For Rapha, the game comes too early. He was out a couple of weeks and we need to make sure he stays fully fit for the next couple of months, until the end of the season,” Rangnick told MUTV.

“So we don’t want to rush him too much. I am very positive, in the next couple of weeks, he will be available.”

The United boss was more forthright about Pogba’s long-term future.

“Players have to want to stay and play for the club,” said Rangnick at the pre-match press conference. “For a big club like Manchester United, if a player does not want to play for a club like Manchester United, even in the long term, I don’t think it makes sense to convince him to change his mind. This is such a massive club, such fantastic support, I don’t think that anyone in the club should then try to convince the player to stay.

“But on the other hand, let’s wait and see. I’ve spoken with him for 15 minutes over the phone a few days ago. Let’s have him come back, get fully fit, train with the team and then we will see where we stand, how the team has developed by then.

“He can be an important player, I’m fully aware of that, but this is true for all the other players that we have.

“I’m not only the coach of Paul Pogba once he’s fully fit, I’m also the coach of all the other players and my ambition is to make them better, to develop each individual player, and this is only possible by improving the performance of the whole team.”

Rangnick is able to call upon the same squad as last week after taking the opportunity to rotate his full team against Young Boys in the Champions League during the week, with the match being a dead rubber due to the club’s status as group leaders and having already qualified.

There were also no new injury worries, aside from Anthony Martial’s ongoing issue, although the player’s agent came out yesterday and declared his client’s desire to leave Old Trafford this winter. On our podcast this week previewing the game, both Lee Lawrence and Phil Marsh agreed that the time is right for the forward to be granted his wish and find a new club.
