Exclusive : Hear Eric Cantona’s First-Ever Interview As A Manchester United Player

/

I’m pleased to share details of ‘Manchester United : The Lost Tapes’ a limited podcast series which launches its debut episode today.

Saturday sees the 30th anniversary of the infamous Selhurst Park incident in January 1995, where Eric Cantona was first sent off and then kung-fu kicked a Palace supporter, and was then subsequently banned from the game for nine months.

Our first episode, Cantona, is a biopic of the Frenchman, told using never-before-heard audio from the Tom Tyrrell archive.

The podcast includes audio from the time of that seismic event, with club owner Martin Edwards sharing the club’s reaction, the late Eric Harrison threatening Cantona with another ban, and more – but it’s also a celebration of Cantona’s overall career at Manchester United, so you will hear for the very first time, Eric’s first-ever interview as a United player. (It’s short, but sweet.)

“I’m very enjoy,” Eric tells Tom Tyrrell. And you will too – have a listen here on Apple Podcasts.

You’ll also hear from Alex Ferguson, David Beckham and others, as well as plenty from Eric himself. The entire episode is comprised of audio you won’t have heard anywhere else. It includes Eric praising David Beckham after Beckham’s own memorable Selhurst Park moment, and Beckham himself praising Eric in the days after Cantona’s shock retirement.

The series continues to take a look at other important stories in United history. You’ll get an on-the-ground report from Galatasaray in 1993; an insight into the rich rivalry between Arsenal and United; and a full extraordinary run-through of the failed takeover saga in 1989 – and much more.

Manchester United : The Lost Tapes is a limited series, narrated by Paddy Barclay, produced by Ed Barker, and written by me (Wayne Barton).

Teasers for Episode One are now on my socials and the @NQATPod socials too.

The podcast will be available on all major podcast platforms. You can subscribe now on Spotify here.
